Tour Plan
Pick up at the Fez Sais airport at the time estimated by our guide and transfer to the Riad, well located and located in the heart of the medina, which is the historical part of Fez, depending on the time of arrival, the possibility of visiting a part of Fez.
After a rich breakfast in the Riad, we begin our guided tour of the new part of the city, where we approach the royal palace, and Jewish neighborhood (Mellah), then we will go to a viewpoint where we can see the entire medina from the Torre del south and the few Mosques. Then we had to walk the medina, declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site. Its labyrinthine alleys are structured by guilds of potters, dyers, … etc, and the bustle of its people will transport you centuries ago. We will note that it is a medieval city and that time has stopped on the clock la ’la Magana Bounania’ ’1200 years after its construction. A marvel!
We head south to cross the Middle Atlas Mountains until we reach Ifrane, called ‘’ little Moroccan Switzerland ‘’ because of its great resemblance to that country. One of the animals that formerly lived here was the Atlas Lion, which is why it has become the symbol of the city and a stone statue in the center of it has been dedicated. We will take the opportunity to stop and take some photos. We will cross the famous cedar forests and we will be able to admire the Great Cedar Gouraud, the largest millennial cedar in the region, and also feed the hundreds of Gibraltar monkeys that inhabit the area. Lunch in Midélt and from here the land becomes arid and full of spectacular geological formations and deep green valleys, such as the Ziz Valley. We will begin to see the typical adobe architecture, palm trees, some distant Kasbahs … we are at the doors of the desert. After an hour after Erfoud we arrive at the impressive Dunes of Merzouga and after the Hospitality Tea, we will leave our bags in the rooms and go up to the first dunes who are next to the hotel and take the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful sunset. Dinner and accommodation in a hotel located a few meters from the Erg Chebbi dunes.
We are already in the desert and today will be a day of Total Desert. After a hearty and rich breakfast, we will go around the Erg Chebbi, a stretch of sandy desert where the Great Dune of Morocco is located, over 250 meters high, and we will connect by track with part of the route followed by the old Paris-Dakar and with the mountains that border Algeria in the background. Stop at the Tissardmin oasis where we can find Fossiles’ career that is still in this region and we will continue towards a nomadic settlement where we will know some of the secrets of their life and customs. Later stop at a panoramic point where we can see the Erg Chebbi as a whole. We will arrive at the village of Khamlia, originally from Mali, where we will relax with tea while enjoying a small concert of spiritual music from Gnawa. Return to the hotel to go out in a camel caravan to enter the heart of the dunes and contemplate an unforgettable sunset. We will arrive with the camels to the camp where we will stay in a tent, white tent-like those used by desert nomads. Dinner and night in the tent in the heart of the desert under a spectacular blanket of stars.
Appointment with the Dawn since they are in the desert, it is recommended to get up early to walk to the highest dune that is around the camp to enjoy the sunrise and this relaxing landscape that nature offers us, we will return in camels to the town of Merzouga. After a rich breakfast, we have to say goodbye to the desert and we will leave for Rissani where we will visit its market (if we are lucky and it is one of the Market days: Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday) we will follow the road to Erfoud where there is the possibility of visiting the factory-made of fossilized marble before continuing to the Touroug and Tinjdad palm groves. 1 hour later we will arrive at one of the strongest points of the High Atlas: The Gorges of Todra. The Todra river bed has formed a gorge of vertical walls of enormous proportions and of great beauty; It is a climber’s paradise and a unique place. Lunch on-site and a half-hour walk would be recommended to see and enjoy the Gorges in detail. In the afternoon we will continue to the Valley of the Dadès, known for the Valley of figs, passing by Boumalne Dadés we will stop at the patas ’monkey feet‘ ’. Dinner and night in the Dadés Gorges.
After breakfast, we can enjoy one of the best views of the Dadés Valley. We will do it from one of the most strategic places that the mountains offer us. From there we will be able to observe the amount of kasbah that there are and the picturesqueness of each one of them, then departure towards a road dotted with various Kasbahs of great interest until we reach the Kasbah of Aït Youl where we will make a detour and enter tracks in what deepest of the Central High Atlas, discovering spectacular landscapes. We will visit a nomadic family that still lives in caves in the Vallé de Boutagrar where time seems to have stopped. We will see Mountains, canyons and valleys as well as the caves where nomads still live in the mountains. Arrive at Vallé de las Rosas to gather Kelaa M ’Gouna. Lunch in the village and in the afternoon we will go through the Skoura palm grove, to arrive later in Ouarzazate, dinner, and accommodation in a hotel.
The morning is dedicated to the visit of Ouarzazate: kasbah de Taourirt, Film studios. Then depart to the Fortified town of Ait Ben Haddou, where we will visit its famous Kasbah (Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO). Films of such renown as Gladiator, Obelix, Sahara with Penelope Cruz, and Jewel of the Nile have been filmed in this spectacular setting. Lunch in the village and in the afternoon we will leave for Marrakech crossing the mountain pass of Tizi Ntichka with stops to take photos. Here we will leave behind the lunar landscape that will give way to the predominantly green, ocher … etc. Arrive in Marrakech around 6 pm. Free afternoon-night to discover the famous Jamaa el Fna Square.
